1 Peter 3:3-4 Word Study

"Your adornment must not be merely external--braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God." ~1 Peter 3:3-4

Greek/Hebrew Dictionary:
~Hidden: inward, secret (kruptos)- Matthew 6:4, Matthew 6:6, Matthew 10:26, Mark 4:22, Luke 8:17, Luke 12:2, John 7:4, John 7:10, John 18:20, Romans 2:16, Romans 2:29, 1 Corinthians 4:5, 1 Corinthians 14:25, 2 Corinthians 4:2

~Imperishable: uncorrupted, not liable to corruption or decay, immortal (Aphthartos)- Romans 1:23, 1 Corinthians 9:25, 1 Corinthians 15:52, 1 Timothy 1:17

~Gentle: Mildness of disposition, gentleness of spirit, meekness (towards God is that disposition of spirit in which we accept his dealing with us as good and therefore without disputing or resisting) (in the OT the meek are those wholly relying on God rather than their own strength to defend them against injustice) (thus meekness towards evil people means knowing God is permitting the injuries they inflict and that he is using them to purify his elect, and that he will deliver his elect in his time) (Isaiah 41:17, Luke 18:1) (Praus)- 1 Timothy 6:11

~Quiet: quiet, tranquil (Hesuchios)- 1 Timothy 2:2

~Precious: requiring very great outlay, very costly, excellent, of surpassing value (Poluteles)- Mark 14:3, 1 Timothy 2:9

From a Normal Dictionary:
Gentle: Genrous, kind; tame; kindly, patient; not harsh or rough; of the upper classes.
Quiet: still, motionless; not noisy, hushed, not speaking, silent; not easily excited; not showy; not forward, obtrusive, peaceful, relaxing.
